SANDIA DERMATOLOGY
INSURANCE

Health Insurance
Sandia Dermatology is non-participating with Medicare. This means for Medicare patients and Medicare Advantage PPO patients, they may pay at the time of visit. Their charges are submitted to their insurance. Their insurance will reimburse them in approximately four weeks by mail. If a secondary is also part of the insurance profile (example: Medigap Plan F, G, N, O) the claim is automatically forwarded by Medicare to the secondary and a second check is sent by mail. Medicare Advantage HMO plans generally do not have this benefit, so those patients are direct pay.Â
For patients with commercial insurance, you can check with your insurer if they reimburse you for seeing out-of-network physicians. On request, we can provide a super bill, a breakdown of diagnoses, codes, and fees, for you to submit to them.
As many common dermatologic procedures and all cosmetic dermatologic procedures are not covered by insurance, this ultimately may not affect your cost of care. Furthermore, with high deductible plans, patients often end up paying for so-called covered services anyway. The hope with this model is that you will have greater access to care when you need it.
